400 years of publishing

June 8, 1984

The British Embassy celebrated 400 years of Cambridge University Press publishing at a reception here May 31. More than 180 guests attended in the embassy's modern rotunda, joining Ambassador Sir Oliver Wright and representatives of the Cambridge University Press's English and New York offices. Geoffrey Cass, chief executive, said, ''The university press is undoubtedly a Cambridge invention,'' noting that Henry VIII authorized its establishment in 1534. Cambridge University Press has published works by such luminaries as Milton, Donne, Newton, and Einstein, and will issue 1,000 titles in 1984.
