Senate drops arms project planned for Honduras

The Senate, acting at the request of the Reagan administration, has scrapped its plans to build two ammunition depots in Honduras. The House Armed Services Committee had earlier had voted to drop the projects.

Committee chairman John Tower (R) of Texas told the Senate on Friday that he had recently been asked by the administration to withdraw the projects so it could ''reassess the need . . . in the context of overall policy'' in the region.

A House subcommittee refused last week to approve more US military aid for El Salvador. It also cut deeply into President Reagan's request for more 1984 assistance for other Central American countries.
