Senate panel to hear testimony on funds waste
The angry chairman of a Senate subcommittee, accusing the Air Force of playing ''a bureaucratic game of chicken,'' said Tuesday he will subpoena Pentagon whistleblower A. Ernest Fitzgerald to hear ''explosive'' information about how the service is wasting money.
''Mr. Fitzgerald has information which the Air Force does not want to have surfaced,'' Sen. Charles Grassley (R) of Iowa said. ''The information that Mr. Fitzgerald speaks of is explosive. . . . It reveals that the vast majority of money we put into major weapons systems is pure waste and inefficiency,'' Senator Grassley said.
