Jumbo feast laid out as circus comes to town

Twenty-one pachyderms were invited to lunch yesterday, given pink roses, and attended by tuxedo-clad waiters. They stood before banquet tables, decorated with pink tablecloths, huge pink bows, and pink place cards, in the parking lot at Portland's Memorial Coliseum. The menu, catered by the Portland Hilton hotel , featured an appetizer of Northwest berries, followed by a rack of hay with apples. A lettuce plate was served, along with a sugar cane dessert.

The feast marked the arrival of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus at Portland for a six-day run.
