Conservatives call for aid to Salvadorean refugees
Two conservatives, Rep. Mark Siljander (R) of Michigan and F. Andy Messing Jr., treasurer of the National Defense Council, called Tuesday for increased American aid to feed and relocate hundreds of thousands of Salvadorean refugees displaced by nearly five years of war. Mr. Messing said the refugee population had risen to more than 500,000, and that the problem undercuts the Salvadorean Army's efforts to defeat leftist guerrillas.
