East-bloc troop exercises stretch over Czechoslovakia

The Warsaw Pact's ''Shield-84' autumn exercises are being staged in an extensive area covering almost the whole of Czechoslovakia, the Soviet Army newspaper Red Star reported Thursday.

Shield-84, which involves 60,000 troops, coincides with the Western NATO alliance ''Autumn Forge' exercises, which began this week and involve some 258, 000 troops.
