$181 billion deficit approved for '85 by House-Senate team
Congressional negotiators reached agreement Tuesday on a budget spending plan that carries a $181.15 billion deficit for the financial year which begins next Monday. The conference committee, made up of Senate and House Budget Committee members, set a spending ceiling of $932.05 billion for the 1985 financial year.
The House voted 273 to 134 Tuesday to cut a $17.9 billion foreign aid bill by 2 percent across the board, except for aid to Israel and Egypt, as a step to control the deficit.
