Ratification in doubt on GM labor contract
Ratification of the tentative contract negotiated by the United Automobile Workers and General Motors appeared to be in doubt Wednesday, raising new possibilities of a nationwide strike against the country's largest auto company. Although neither UAW nor GM is releasing details on the voting under way in 147 local unions, votes favoring the wage and job security agreement were reported to hold a narrow 51 percent margin.
