Anti-whaling groups seek boycott of Japanese airline

Environmental groups from 18 countries announced Tuesday they were launching a campaign to press for an international boycott of Japan Air Lines (JAL) to protest Japanese commercial whaling operations.

The Greenpeace group said that the Japanese government had nearly a 38 percent stake in JAL and that the campaign was aimed at forcing Japan to withdraw its objections to decisions by the International Whaling Commission to phase out commercial whaling by 1986.
