Pakistani vote on Islamic laws appears to have been light
Yesterday's voting in Pakistan's referendum on Islamization appeared generally low, but both President Mohammad Zia ul-Haq and his critics boycotting the vote claimed they were pleased.
General Zia, who seized power in 1977, will receive an extra five-year term if voters support his efforts to enforce Islamic laws. Referendum results are expected Saturday.
