HOUSE DEMOCRATS CONTINUE FIGHT ON MINIMUM WAGE

President Bush won his first battle with Congress over raising the minimum wage, but Democrats are promising to emerge from the next round of the fight with a new measure the President will be unable to kill with another veto. ``Our obligation now is to move forward with a bill which will be enacted and put money in the pockets of low-wage workers this year,'' House Labor Committee chairman Augustus Hawkins (D) of California said last week.
