Burmese troops fired on a demonstration by about 500 people in Rangoon Wednesday, killing one protester. The incident occurred when opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi was attending a ceremony for students killed during protests one year ago. According to Rangoon Radio, when officials tried to detain her supporters intervened. Security forces then opened fire. Ms. Suu Kyi was freed after an hour.
