LEBANESE LEGISLATORS IN SAUDI ARABIA FOR PEACE TALKS

Lebanese legislators, meeting in Saudi Arabia for talks on Lebanon's civil war, have the country's future in their hands, according to the head of the Muslim cabinet that rivals a Christian government in Lebanon. The talks, which began Saturday, came amid a cease-fire in Lebanon between Syrian-backed Muslim militias and Christian forces. The meeting ``could be the last chance for peace in Lebanon,'' said Selim Hoss, acting prime minister of the Muslim government.

Fighting ceased last week under an Arab League-sponsored peace plan that called for the talks. But the warring sides are split over Syria's military presence and Muslim demands for more power.
