STORM HAMPERS RECOVERY EFFORT

October 3, 1989

Rain, floods, and a tornado dealt cruel new blows yesterday to those trying to rebuild hurricane-devastated towns. The latest weather assault came amid a torrent of volunteer aid from across the country, an effort boosted Sunday by a $1,000 check by former President Reagan.

The twister tore through the town of Lebanon, tossing a house trailer onto a road and injuring two occupants.

Rain fell throughout South Carolina Sunday, hampering cleanup efforts and forcing evacuation of 100 people in Anderson County in the state's northwest corner.
