USE HEADS AND HEARTS

November 6, 1989

The Council of Better Business Bureaus warns donors to disaster relief charities to use their heads as well as their hearts when making contributions. The agency noted that Hurricane Hugo and California's earthquake have brought out the desire of many Americans to help the victims. But it has also prompted a few to try to profit from the tragedies. Potential donors should not hesitate to ask questions about the purposes, programs, and finances of the soliciting organization.
