November 8, 1989

China's Academy of Sciences has decided to dismiss Fang Lizhi from his post as research fellow at Beijing University. Mr. Fang is a leading dissident who has taken refuge in the US Embassy since the June 4 crackdown, Beijing Radio reported Tuesday. The radio said the academy also decided to strip him of his title of ``young and middle-aged technical and managerial expert who had made outstanding contributions'' and of the special privileges that went with the title.
