TAXPAYERS SHOULD KNOW NEW RIGHTS

Taxpayers should be aware of their rights in the ``Taxpayer Bill of Rights,'' which became law last year, says James Ivers of The American College. For instance, the Internal Revenue Service will waive penalties for errors that were made based on incorrect information supplied in writing by the IRS in response to a written request. The IRS gives faulty responses to 22 percent of telephoned inquiries, the government has found.
