DIRECTOR'S FEES DOUBLE IN DECADE

The fees paid to corporate directors have doubled during the last decade. Yet finding qualified directors is difficult, says Korn/Ferry International, an executive search firm. Average pay for directors of the nation's largest corporations climbed 8 percent to $24,729 in 1989, a Korn/Ferry study shows. Directors of $5 billion-and-over companies now earn $41,200 annually.

But 64 percent of chief executive officers (CEOs) polled in 1989 report trouble finding and attracting qualified ones.
