Encounter
April 11, 1990
Swift sanderlings scurry for food, metronomes in time with the tide, gulls and terns sweep across whitecaps rolling toward a receptive shore where pliant sand slips away like thoughts carried aloft by the wind. Here poet and fisherman meet to probe the depths, to seek their catch in the sonorous surge of life the ocean and heavens afford to those who can taste a sunset, feel the pulse of a vibrant sea.
