Rapid changes in Eastern Europe have helped speed the sale of international mutual funds, says Reg Green, publisher of the Mutual Fund News Service. Sales in the first quarter were six times as high as in the comparable period of 1989: $2.5 billion against $400 million.
Pacific region funds, however, lost 16 percent of their value on average in the first four months of the year.
