Autumn Verses
October 18, 1990
An October sky flush with a full moon fills with a flourish of uncertain stars, the night is hostess to migrating geese and the last echoes of the summer child. Below, the trees crowd about in shadow their fiery colors poised to match the dawn while animals burrowed into soft beds dream of tasting snatches of spring sunlight. Here the poet waits, hidden from his thoughts that roam the night sky tumbling star to star in search of secrets carried by the wind and pure love songs immune to winter kill.
