US SEEKS TO END JAPANESE PARK CONCESSION

January 3, 1991

Interior Secretary Manuel Lujan Jr. wants to cancel a concession at Yosemite National Park held by a Japanese firm by virtue of its takeover of MCA Inc., it was reported Tuesday. The Washington Post quoted Mr. Lujan as saying he has asked department lawyers to determine if the National Park Service can cancel its contract with Yosemite Park Curry Company, which now belongs to Matsushita Electric Industrial Company.

The department would then find an American operator for Yosemite's lucrative hotel, restaurants, groceries and campgrounds, The Post said.
