JAPAN INVESTS LESS IN US MANUFACTURING

Japanese firms reported 148 investments in United States manufacturing in 1990, down from 192 in 1989 and reversing an upward trend of recent years, according to a Conference Board analysis. California and the Midwest continue to be popular locations. The business organization cited two major reasons for the decline: Many Japanese firms have completed their investments for now, and borrowing costs in Japan are going up.
