SUNDAY

Terror (A&E cable, 8-9 p.m.): First of three programs that explore the growing menace of world terrorism in its many grisly guises - from Maoist revolutionaries in Peru to more visible forms like the IRA and Middle Eastern agents. The series lets the terrorists explain their reasons - and the victims describe the ghastly results. (Viewers may find some sections disturbing).

Nature (PBS, 8-9 p.m.): One half of Africa's elephants have been killed for their ivory in the past 10 years. In documenting this ominous fact, ``Elephants of Tsavo: Love and Betrayal'' takes an excusably partisan view as it offers heart-rending scenes of what's been happening in Kenya's Tsavo National Park.

MONDAY

Citizen Carter (Discovery cable, 9-10 p.m.): Jimmy Carter the man - and humanitarian - is the focus of this documentary about the former president's life after office. It takes an admiring, largely de-politicized look at Carter as he plunges into a range of projects.(See preview in the Monitor's March 4 edition.)

TUESDAY

Nova (PBS, 8-9 p.m.): You can see whales migrating, feeding, and going about their epic daily lives in ``Swimming With Whales,'' a visually compelling documentary that follows a boatload of scientists. They set sail in 1989 near Canada's Vancouver Island to study the marine mammals - and for the first time on film caught them roughhousing with a seal.
