Leaving Shapeless Dark

March 27, 1991

It is quiet in the house; the family asleep

have left the causes they

-espouse -

and their dreams - for me --to keep.

I awake to them and find

them moving, quick

-and real

like living things with heart

-and mind,

filled with strength and zeal.

I suggest to them their beds,

wait for them to come,

advising them to use

-their heads,

approving, praising some.

Sometimes they protest, or

-they yawn

and straggle up the stair,

leaving shapeless stillness on

the darkness everywhere.
