AMERICANS GAVE MORE IN 1990 TO CHARITIES

Charitable donations to the nation's nonprofit organizations grew to an estimated $122.57 billion in 1990, an increase of 5.8 percent from last year, according to the AAFRC Trust for Philanthropy. After adjusting for inflation in the service sector of the economy, where most nonprofit organizations are located, the donations represented an increase of almost 1 percent.

Gifts from individuals accounted for more then 83 percent of the total.
