Of those homes with television sets in the United States, 72.5 percent had VCRs (videocassette recorders) and 28.2 percent had pay cable in May, according to Nielsen Media Research, a market research firm in New York.VCR penetration is up from 69.4 percent in May 1990, while pay cable is down from 29.2 percent.
