UN INSPECTION TEAM WITHDRAWS FROM STANDOFF IN IRAQ

A team of United Nations weapons inspectors withdrew from outside an Iraqi government building yesterday, fearing violence after a 17-day standoff.

Baghdad has rejected the inspectors' demands to enter the Agriculture Ministry, which the inspectors believe contain documents about Iraqi missiles.

The UN Security Council has been considering what steps to take to force Iraqi compliance with the demands, including a possible military strike.
