SCHOOL TIES - Accepted into an elite prep school that needs his football skills, a Jewish boy encounters ingrained anti-Semitism and decides to keep his background a secret. The film's attack on bigotry is matched by an ironic awareness of how tenaciously bias can persist in strongholds of wealth and privilege. But why did the filmmakers relegate their story to the 1950s, as if such attitudes weren't still alive and dangerous? Robert Mandel directed from a screenplay by Dick Wolf and Darryl Ponicsan.
