In anticipation of the Grammys - the recording industry's annual ceremony airing March 1 on CBS - this special takes its own fond look back.

Hosted by Vanessa Williams and Harry Connick Jr., it offers clips from previous shows and memorable performances - from Louis Armstrong to Whitney Houston - over the past 35 years. People who have trouble sitting through awards shows may not mind seeing this lively parade of selected moments, with its impressive list of performers. As viewers watch, they will notice changes not only in music but also in the culture itself, as reflected in styles of dress and production technology.

48 Hours: Politically Correct (CBS, 10-11 p.m.): The tide is turning against PC, according to many observers, but the subject remains irresistible to TV. News shows continue to mine the topic for impassioned comment over questions like whether speech codes designed to prevent harassment are ever acceptable.

Some of the people interviewed in this examination of the subject may surprise you - comedian Jackie Mason, for instance, and Kermit the Frog. Not so surprising is a talk by CBS commentator Andy Rooney about his clash with gay rights advocates. He tells how his attitude has changed since the publicized incident four years ago. In another segment, we learn that Vassar College has been accused of mistreating a student who allegedly made anti-gay remarks. The student says the college is practicing ``McCarthyism'' - an ironic turnaround of that term's historic use.
