Olympics (CBS, 8-11 p.m.): The opening ceremony of the XVII Olympic Winter Games from Lillehammer, Norway. Also, highlights of ice-hockey games and the downhill practice runs of men's Alpine skiing. * SUNDAY

Olympics (CBS, 9 a.m. to noon): Hockey, men's speed skating, pairs figure skating, and women's cross-country skiing.

2:30-6 p.m., EST: Hockey (United States vs. France), men's speed skating, and pairs figure skating.

8-11 p.m.: Men's Alpine skiing, pairs figure skating, men's speed skating, luge (men's singles), hockey.

NBA All-Star Game

(NBC, 6-9 p.m., EST): It's the 44th annual version of a game pitting pro basketball's brightest lights against one other. Some of the sport's more spectacular plays (stunts?) can occur in this contest, since the score doesn't affect team standings and the emphasis is a little more on individual virtuosity. Some of basketball's most impressive talents will be off the court but on camera: Earvin (Magic) Johnson will help analyze the action, and Julius Erving and Bill Walton will offer commentary. * MONDAY

Evening News From Moscow (C-Span, 6 -6:30 p.m. EST): A report in Russian with simultaneous English translation.

Ancient Journeys (Learning Channel, 9-10 p.m.): The Aztec people in what is now Mexico may be the subject of archaeology, but some of them made startling archaeological discoveries themselves. It happened once 800 years ago, when a group of Aztec Indians came upon a large, beautiful, long-abandoned city that they named Teotihuacan - City of the Gods. The people who lived there are the subject of ``Secrets of Ancient Mexico,'' the first of two programs devoted to the roots of Mexican culture. (The second, ``Searching for the Maya,'' airs Feb. 21.)

This first show takes viewers to the area of Teotihuacan, some 25 miles from Mexico City, to uncover facts about a group that once ruled Mesoamerica.
