WORTH NOTING ON TV

Great Performances (PBS, 2:30-4 p.m.): Typically one of the most festive, lively, and agreeable of TV's New Year's programming is the annual concert by the superb Vienna Philharmonica.

The broadcasts are from Vienna's Musikverein Saal, a beautiful auditorium, flower-filled for this year's program: ``From Vienna: The New Year's Celebration (1995).''

Walter Cronkite is host, taking viewers outside the Musikverein Saal at times. Inside - under the baton of guest conductor Zubin Mehta - the program presents music by the Johann Strauss family: not only its most illustrious member, Johann Strauss Jr., but his father, Johann Sr., and two of his other sons, Eduard and Joseph.

But it's not quite a Strauss oligarchy. Two other well-loved composers are heard from: Franz von Suppe (Overture to ``The Jolly Robbers'') and Joseph Lanner (``Favorite Polka''). And two dance performances are offered by the Vienna State Opera Ballet. * MONDAY

Tournament of Roses Parade (ABC, CBS, NBC, 11 a.m to conclusion, EST): The 106th annual edition of this eye-catching event is expected to be seen by some 325 million on TV worldwide, as well as by 1 million spectators in person. The 5-1/2-mile procession will feature the usual attractions, this year including 29 equestrian units, 23 marching bands, and, of course, carefully crafted floral floats - 54 of them - with motifs more or less focusing on this year's tournament theme: ``Sports: The Quest for Excellence.''

Disney has been represented one way or another in the parade since 1938, when it entered a float featuring Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The opening musical production will be presented by Disney, which not so incidentally is marking the 40th anniversary of Disneyland and the launching of Disneyland's latest attraction, ``The Indiana Jones Adventure.''
