Philadelphia Hosts Barnes Collection Paintings

The Barnes Foundation's 2,500 artworks, amassed in the first half of this century and housed in Merion, Pa., rank as one of America's premier collections. For the first time, 84 of these works have traveled on a world exhibition, with a final stop at the Philadelphia Museum of Art through April 9. ''From Cezanne to Matisse: Great French Paintings From the Barnes Foundation'' culls works from Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and early modern periods, including paintings by Manet, Monet, Picasso, Renoir, and Van Gogh, whose ''Joseph-Etienne Roulin'' (1889) is pictured here.
