WORTH NOTING ON TV

The Churchills (PBS, 8-10:30 p.m.): Three generations of the celebrated British dynasty are portrayed in this carefully researched documentary. The program focuses on the family's most famous member, Sir Winston Churchill, best remembered for his firm leadership during World War II: ''He was a romantic whose power lay in his capacity to shape the world in his vision, to make men and women do things that they didn't know they were capable of doing,'' says Pamela Churchill Harriman, Churchill's daughter-in-law (who is currently US ambassador to France). Other close family members are interviewed for the program, along with Winston Churchill's official biographer, Martin Gilbert.

Summit '96 (TBS, 10:30-11:30 p.m.): Malcolm-Jamal Warner (''The Cosby Show'') hosts this round-table discussion on young African-Americans in the spotlight and the responsibilities of being a role model. Other participants in this Black History Month program include Farai Chideya, journalist with ''MTV News''; actress Kim Fields-Freeman; Moe Gardner, defensive tackle with the Atlanta Falcons; Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D) of Illinois; and Q-Tip, rap artist.

* FRIDAY

Wynonna: revelations (CBS, 10-11 p.m.): After a two-year hiatus, country-music star Wynonna Judd makes her return to the public eye in her first TV special as a solo artist. In addition to offering a look into her family life - including footage from her recent wedding with Arch Kelley III - Wynonna sings ''To Be Loved by You'' from her new ''revelations'' album. Making a special appearance is Bette Midler.
