Group Honors Church for 'Faithful Support' of Bible Week
BOSTON
A national Bible association is honoring the Christian Science Church for its "faithful support for the annual celebration of National Bible Week."
"The Christian Science Reading Rooms are outstanding in their consistency in support of Bible Week," says Thomas May, executive director of the Laymen's National Bible Association, an organization formed by businessmen in 1940 to promote the Bible. "The Christian Science Church has done a better job than any other particular group I know of across the board," Mr. May says.
Some 2,500 Christian Science Reading Rooms worldwide sell or loan the Bible. Many actively promote the Bible during the LNBA's National Bible Week, which runs from the Sunday before to the Sunday following Thanksgiving. Moreover, the church's headquarters sponsors a nondenominational Bible exhibit visited by thousands of people from around the world each year. Its collection contains more than 400 Bibles, including a King James 1611 edition and a 1534 La Sante Bible.
"We are grateful for this award which recognizes the vital place the Holy Bible occupies in the activities of The Mother Church," said William H. Hill, a director and manager of the Christian Science Publishing Society, which distributes the Bible worldwide.
