SATURDAY 5/9
Saturday Night Live (NBC, 11:30 p.m.-1 a.m.): "X-Files" star David Duchovny hosts the season finale with musical guests Puff Daddy and Jimmy Page. (TV-14)
SUNDAY 5/10
Stanley Cup Playoffs (Fox, 2-5 p.m.): After a 4-0 destruction of Los Angeles Kings in the first round, Brett Hull's St. Louis Blues take on the defending champions Detroit Red Wings in the best-of-seven conference semifinals. Games continue through the week.
NBA Playoff (NBC, 3-5:30 p.m.): The Seattle SuperSonics beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the opening game of the conference semifinals Monday. Expect an exciting best-of-seven series between these two talented teams. Other semifinals during the week.
Only Love (CBS, 9-11 p.m.): Marisa Tomei and Rob Morrow star in this two-part tear-jerker based on Erich Segal's 1997 novel. Matthew Heller (Morrow) is a successful doctor whose life is interrupted when his former fiance (Mathilda May) contacts him for help. Tomei plays Morrow's longtime friend. Even though there are big stars, the plot is too slow and predictable. Part 2 airs Monday.
Masterpiece Theatre - Far From the Madding Crowd (PBS, 9-11 p.m.): This beautifully realized two-part adaptation of Thomas Hardy's 19th-century tale of country life and love - requited and unrequited - concerns an unconventional young woman (Paloma Baeza), the mistress of a farm, who has three suitors and chooses the wrong one. She is naive at first - but wise at last. Wonderful performances, lavish photography, and a gripping story with fascinating characters at its core make this excellent entertainment. The conclusion airs May 17. (TV-PG, S)
MONDAY 5/11
Going Places (PBS, 8-9 p.m.): Season 2 of actor James Avery's travel series begins in South Africa. Offbeat interviews and fun-filled locales make this a delightful hour. Future destinations: Ireland, Australia, San Francisco, Miami, and more. (TV-PG)
Gunfighters of the West - Billy the Kid (TLC, 9-10 p.m.): Wyatt Earp was never a marshal, neither was he a full sheriff of Tombstone, Ariz. This well-researched series takes aim at fiction. The first episode profiles Billy the Kid, the least documented outlaw. (TV-PG)
WEDNESDAY 5/13
American Masters - Don Hewitt: 90 Minutes on 60 Minutes (PBS, 9-10:30 p.m.): This fascinating and compelling special goes behind the scenes of America's top newsmagazine, "60 Minutes," and finds out what makes this 30-year-old program tick. At its core is executive producer-creator Don Hewitt, whose credo is "tell me a story," and if it doesn't pass this test, it won't get on the air. The energetic program profiles Hewitt and also features a heated debate between him and Mike Wallace. (TV-PG)
THURSDAY 5/14
The Seinfeld Finale (NBC, 8-10 p.m.): The swan song of "Seinfeld" really doesn't start until 9, but NBC is milking this for all it's worth. The first hour will feature highlights from the show's nine seasons; then the highly anticipated - and highly secret - finale will follow. Expect to see many guest stars reappear from past seasons. (TV-PG)
FRIDAY 5/15
Daytime Emmy Awards (NBC, 9-11 p.m.): Hosted by Leeza Gibbons, Peter Reckell, Joe Barbara, and Jason George, the 25th-annual awards show honors the best in soap operas, talk shows, game shows, and children's programming. (TV-14)
