On the stranger side

Some of the quirkier new laws:

Redondo Beach, Calif., repealed a 1950s law banning the wearing of swimsuits that didn't stretch at least one inch above the belly button.

For $25, the city of Los Angeles will now implant a microchip into a pet dog or cat for identification purposes.

For $50.50, a senior citizen in Nebraska can get lifetime hunting and fishing license.

In Hawaii, training requirements have been increased for professionals (now called "estheticians" rather than "cosmeticians") who give massages, exfoliations, and other such services.

Gardena, Calif., now limits each resident to four yard sales per year.
