Where US tax dollar goes
March 1, 1999
Us tax dollars were allocated almost identically this year as last year, reflecting consistent spending patterns in the 1990s, says Patrick Fleenor, senior economist at Tax Foundation.
Slightly more will go to transportation and education & training in 1999. In the largest category, Social Security, 83 percent of tax revenue immediately goes to beneficiaries and the rest pays down government debt or covers other expenses.
Government spending for 1999 will total 1.79 trillion compared with 01.71 trillion in 1998.
