Cities fit for family
March 10, 1999
When people think of a family-friendly community, what do they have in mind? According to a recent National League of Cities (NLC) survey of 300 community leaders, the top three factors are:
*Education: 74 percent of the local government and community leaders polled felt that a quality school system is most important.
*Community Safety: Close to two-thirds of the respondents felt that street lights, sidewalks, and a visible police force were crucial.
*Recreation: About 40 percent wanted outdoor and indoor facilities like pools and parks.
