Clamoring for a clambake?
July 14, 1999
If you're hankering for a clambake, but don't live near the ocean, never fear. Here are some simple instructions for baking your own bivalves.
Dig a hole large enough for the number of clams you're baking, and line the pit with rocks. After burning a charcoal or wood fire in the pit and letting the coals heat the rocks, remove coals and alternate layers of seaweed and clams, ending with seaweed. (Corn, sausages, potatoes, and lobsters may also be added. ) If you're not into mucking along the beach in search of clams, the following Web sites will ship clambake kits and instructions.
