Caveat parents

The latest wrinkle in Web technology is something called "page-jacking," in which Web sites that nearly duplicate legitimate ones, when entered, whisk children and others into an electronic maze of pornography.

For instance, a site apparently about a popular movie sent visitors to sites with lurid photos. When puzzled surfers tried to close the windows, others opened automatically, displaying more pornography.

To avoid the problem, parents can call their Internet service providers for directions on disabling Javascript technology in their browsers. Also, some types of Internet filtering software are effective in blocking these sites.
