Before Jack Frost comes knocking
October 6, 1999
After months of warm weather, it's hard to remember everything you need to do to prepare your home for cold weather. Here's a checklist of things to get done before the first frost:
Exterior Plumbing
*Turn off and drain sprinkler system.
*Insulate exterior faucets.
*Insulate exposed pipes in garage.
*Clean gutters and storm drains. Make sure downspouts can carry water three feet away from house.
Heating System
*Clean or replace furnace filters.
*Clean and vacuum vents, baseboard heaters, and ducts.
*Remove or cover window air conditioners.
