Where phone use is footloose
March 27, 2000
Who are the world's leaders in cellphone ownership?
As a group, Scandinavians certainly fill their airwaves. (Coincidently or not, the region is home to two of the world's largest cellular-phone manufacturers: Finland's Nokia and Sweden's Ericsson.)
Japan is at No. 15. And where's the US? Way down at No. 24, with 29 percent. Lower prices, better digital service, and the growth of the mobile Internet could soon boost America's numbers.
