Where white-collar, entry-level jobs are

Last month's Jobtrack.com survey of job openings for July 2000 offered more confirmation that the job market is desperate for workers in all sectors. The survey showed a 19.6 percent increase in total job openings, compared with July 1999.

Certain sectors seek more help than others, says the survey, which is based on openings that companies post on Jobtrack's site, targeted at college graduates. Entry-level teaching jobs are in the highest demand, says the survey. The Department of Education estimates that more than 2 million teachers will retire or stop teaching in the next decade, some leaving for higher paying professions. Also in short supply: accountants - particularly those in the public sector.
