COUNT ON MY SUPPORT

You probably don't know many people who enjoy paying taxes, right? But John Tomasich relishes the thought. So much so that he and his wife have sold their house in warm, sunny Long Beach, Calif., and moved all the way to northern Wisconsin. Why? Because the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League want to enlarge their stadium, Lambeau Field, and need a half-percent sales tax to help pay the tab. Tomasich not only is eager to contribute his share, he also plans to campaign all-out for voter approval of the new levy in a Sept. 12 referendum. The publicly owned team, you see, has managed to survive in pro sport's smallest market since 1921 - a fact that Tomasich says "I am truly in love with."

New York: big, brassy, and No. 1 in new livability survey

"I happen to like New York," the great tunesmith Cole Porter once wrote. And it seems most Americans agree with him. For the third year in the past four, more respondents told the Harris Poll they'd choose the Big Apple, over any other city if they did not live where they are now. Surprises came from Atlanta, which displaced Seattle from the No. 2 slot, and San Diego, which jumped from ninth to No. 5. The Harris Poll's list of Americans' top 10 choices:

1. New York

2. Atlanta

3. Seattle

4. Denver

5. San Diego

6. Chicago (tie) Las Vegas (tie) San Francisco

9. Boston

10. Orlando (tie) Phoenix
