Lobster half gainer
September 1, 2000
Lobbed into the Atlantic off the coast of Rhode Island, this female lobster is one of 1.25 million being released to rebuild the local population. A 1996 oil spill, the state's worst, had decimated the lobster population in Block Island Sound. Angela Caporelli oversees the $8 million project, which is paid for by the company responsible for the spill.
