Campaign against torture
October 19, 2000
WASHINGTON
Amnesty International launched a year-long, global campaign to stop torture yesterday. New research on torture practices around the world and a fast-response Internet action network to protest torture were unveiled.
Amnesty's Fast Action Stops Torture (FAST) network will allow activists to inundate torturers with thousands of e-mail messages within hours of receiving an e-mail or cellular-phone alert from Amnesty that someone is at risk of torture. The FAST network is accessible at www.amnestyusa.org.
