Page turner
April 17, 2003
He sits still like courtyard granite,
arms folding
once each page. Resting, he reads
notes learned
by heart, lonely skill used in quiet
shadows, turning
octaves for the lucent piano player.
Serving the music,
he enjoys his pleasure in silence,
the still meditation
of eye and ear joined on stage,
turning page
and note in time. Done well, no
one notices but
himself, not even the piano player.
