January white sale
January 14, 2005
Waking, I discover winter
spreading her merchandise,
draping lace curtains across the hedges,
brushing a few stray feathers from
down pillows mounded in the west.
Snowplows turn back new sheets
embroidered with bird tracks.
Even the battered lawn chairs we forgot
to put away, pose for House Beautiful
in tailored slipcovers.
