A slice of Summer – and life

September 14, 2006

On assignment to photograph how people were dealing with a stifling summer heat wave, I came across a group of girls at a neighborhood pool in the Roxbury section of Boston. It was a quiet moment, one just before the eager kids were allowed back in to swim.

I could not resist the composition of the girls, each projecting a quiet confidence, with the smallest one a step ahead of the rest. Minutes later the pool was bustling with activity, children splashing about, yells from all directions. The four young girls had mixed in with hundreds of swimmers and were lost in the crowd.

The photograph was not important for the assignment, but it holds its own as a slice of life.
